Our erupting apple science activity is an awesome example of a chemical reaction, and kids love these amazing reactions just as much as adults! apple

baking soda

vinegar

container to catch the fizz

knife to carve out hole (for adults to do!)

SIMPLE SET UP

To get started with your erupting apple science activity, fill the apple with baking soda. Place apple in the middle of a container. I chose a pie dish since it is an apple! Now to get the fun science started!

We simply poured the vinegar straight from the bottle for maximum reaction in this erupting apple science activity! My preschooler understands that the fizzy bubbling action is actually a reaction from the two materials (baking soda and vinegar) mixing. For more fun erupting science play, he explored a bit further. He tipped the apple over and used an eye dropper to experiment more with a bowl of vinegar. He enjoyed that we saved the apple stem (kind of like carving a pumpkin). Lots more fizzy action to be had with this apple science experiment. Awesome, easy and very appealing to kids.
