WATER SCIENCE ACTIVITIES FOR KIDS

ICE MELT

Ice melt science activities are the perfect mix of play and learning for young kids. You can create awesome themes easily to engage your kids with ideas they love! We have everything from Star Wars Rescue, Hot Wheels, and Frozen Dinosaur Eggs to Elsa’s Frozen Castle. We have more than 20 Ice Melting Ideas for simple science you can explore or create an entirely new one based on your child’s interests!

SINK OR FLOAT

Check out what you have in the kitchen for a great sink or float science experiment with some very interesting results! If you have a shark lover, check out our experiment to better understand how a shark stays buoyant in the ocean!

MAKE A WAVE BOTTLE/JAR

How do the waves of an ocean work. Make your own ocean wave jar to explore!

WATER ABSORPTION EXPERIMENT

This is a very simple and fun water absorption science activity my son had a blast exploring. It will really get your kids thinking about what absorbs water and what does not.

BUILD A LEGO WATER DAM

Use LEGO to design and build a LEGO water dam or explore the flow of water.

SALT WATER DENSITY

Compare salt water to freshwater with a fun salt water density water science activity. Can you make an egg float? Will different items sink in freshwater but float in salt water? Make your predictions and test your results.

SURFACE TENSION WITH WATER DROPS

All you need for this experiment is a few coins, an eye dropper or pipette, and water! How many drops fit on the surface of a penny? What else could you use? A bottle cap turned over, a flat LEGO piece, or another small and smooth flat surface! Take a guess at how many drops it will take and then test it out.

SUGAR WATER RAINBOWS

Can you make a rainbow with sugar and water? This is a neat sugar water density activity . Instead of salt we use sugar and food coloring to stack the colors of the rainbow.

EXPLORING VOLUME

What does one cup of water look like in different size containers. Does it look the same or different depending on the size and shape? Exploring volume with water is a great concept for young kids with a hands-on visual! This is an water volume activity I wrote for Pre-K Pages.

DESIGN AND BUILD A WATER WALL

Be an engineer and build your own water wall. Depending on what surface you have to build on will determine the materials you use. Check out our water wall and see what you can come up!

WATER CYCLE IN A BOTTLE

Make a discovery bottle all about the water cycle. One of the best water science activities is one where we can learn more about one of the most important and necessary cycles on Earth, the water cycle!

THE POWER OF WATER

How does the Hoover Dam cover water into electricity or Hydroelectric power or hydro power. Learn more here with this short YouTube video!

Energy 101: Hydropower talks about a few ways water can be converted into energy.
