All The Beauty From NYFW Spring 2017

Live from New York, it's Fashion Week. Into The Gloss reports from the frenzied backstage corridors of the Spring 2017 (and sometimes Fall 2016...buy now, wear now, people) shows to bring you all of the makeup, hair, and occasional manicures you'll want to wear next season. Michael Kors

The genius of Dick Page aside, Michael Kors' makeup was your standard issue, beautiful skin, no-makeup look. (When you look like Karly Loyce, Bella Hadid, or Anna Ewers, mascara just seems trite.) Orlando Pita did champion the deep side part, which we can get on board with.

Brandon Maxwell

Less glow, more gold. The hero product in Tom Pecheux's kit was a MAC Gold Pigment, which he applied generously to the models lips (after prepping with a deep concealer from MAC's Spring 2017 palette) and also to the cheeks. The hair was—surprise!—individual for each girl, a not-too-perfect take on party hair care of James Pecis.

Proenza Schouler

During show prep, Anthony Turner had each of the models wash their hair backstage—using either Bumble Gentle Shampoo or Curl Shampoo, depending on their natural texture. "All the little mistakes we get in the hair after it’s been freshly washed is what we’re enjoying." Also, painted ears.

Tome

A very sensible makeup look for your next intergalactic garden party. Diane Kendal swept a silver pigment up the sides of the face, from beneath the cheekbone to well above the eyebrow. It's directional runway makeup or just highlighter, depending on who you ask.

Opening Ceremony

2017 is the year of the low bun. OC's version was architectural (naturally), pulled back into a faux triangle hairline. Yadim's makeup followed graphic suit—dramatic winged Maybelline Eye Studio Drama Gel drawn from the middle of the eye out, inspired by pageantry. The pageantry of life, maybe? Anyway, Aubrey Plaza was there, and she looked gooood.

Alexander Wang

"Wang is everything I've ever wabted." That was Tom's review, in one frenzied and unAutocorrected text message. Mainly because Tom's been sunburnt blush's loudest advocate for the last two years. On display here is Nars' Cappadoce Multiple as a base with Portofino layered over essentially right under the eyes. Then Guido bleached and cut some hair (which is classic Guido, if you know him) and everybody celebrated with McDonald's.

Lacoste

MAC Studio Conceal and Correct, Prep and Prime Transparent Finishing Powder, Brow Set, and Eye Gloss. You can do this at home.

Tommy Hilfiger

Imagine boarding a ship bound for a distant land—Montauk, maybe—only to be intercepted and captured by fun-loving pirates who all look like Gigi Hadid and are wearing nautical fringe bandanas. That was basically the flavor of Tommy Hilfiger's Hadid-fronted show, and like true seafarers, the models wore Covergirl Highlighter and Zoya Naked Manicure Base Coat with little else.

Cushnie et Ochs

Another red lip moment, this time dual-toned (a look we love) and inspired by Michelle Pfeiffer in Scarface. The top lip is cherry matte in Perfect Score, the bottom is a matte pink in Relentlessly Red, and the blush was a combination of the two shades. Balance is everything.

Jason Wu

This is Yadim's take on red lips—precise and nuanced. The base is Maybelline Color Sensational Liquid Lip Color in Orange Shot, finished by tapping in the matte Orange Danger over top. Pairs well with some of the most wearable "wet" hair seen to date, care of Tresemmé Hair Gel, a heavy hand, and a paddle brush.

Thakoon

. The hair was inspired by American fashion magazine covers, the end result being a wet chignon we're not going to attempt at home, but that looks amazing here.

Creatures of the Wind

Bedhead, prepped with Bb Surf Spray and pulled into a low bun, and a red lip, courtesy of Nars Dragon Girl with Exhibit A pressed on top. An undone look you can believe in, thanks to Holli Smith and Mark Carrasquillo.

Brock Collection

Beautiful clothes fit for a 21st Century Jane Austen heroine, and dreamy Benjamin Puckey makeup. It's your standard daywear, but turned up two notches—bronze and taupe eyeshadow shades from Maybelline’s The Nudes Palette, Color Sensational Liquid Lip in Nude Flush applied like a stain, and filled, fluffed, and thickened brows.

Adam Selman

Emi Kaneko wants you to wear blush, everywhere. Start at your cheekbone, graze the corner of your eye, and don't stop until you hit your ear. Then put it on your eyelids and lips. When you think you've put enough on, it's time for a second coat. As you suspected, Tom's thrilled.
